A growing number of children in the U.S. benefit from early learning environments. As of 2024, federal and state early learning opportunities serve more than 4.2 million children and families — or 18% of children ages 5 and under.

Managing young children in a classroom environment — and making sure they are learning — comes with a unique set of challenges for educators. Young children are still discovering who they are and how they relate to the physical world around them. They bring lots of curiosity, creativity and chaos into the room, challenging teachers to meet them with lessons that adapt to individual learning styles, speeds and interests. While experts warn against excessive screen time for young children, the National Association for the Education of Young Children offers a set of helpful guidelines for how to incorporate early learning technology in the classroom to promote creativity. Technology can also aid early learning efforts by providing new ways to promote safety and security in the classroom and beyond.

The Samsung classroom

The connected classroom is a place where students and teachers can engage with learning content — and with each other — in new and dynamic ways. Samsung seeks to power the connected classroom, inspiring student success with a combination of connected technologies such as interactive displays, monitors, PCs, tablets, Chromebooks and smartphones on private networks. While not every component may be applicable for early learning, devices such as interactive whiteboards for collaborative learning, pre-k tablets tailored for young children (such as Galaxy Tab A9+ and Galaxy Tab S9 FE), and interactive apps on Samsung Kids can keep kids engaged and help educators meet early learning challenges such as different learning styles and abilities.

Better together: Partners for improvement

Samsung partners with education leaders like Kaplan and Age of Learning to create multifaceted, customizable early education technology and solutions. Samsung brings dependable technology, software, and device management, while education partners bring in-depth knowledge of the education space and insights into what teachers — and students — need to succeed.

For example, the Little Learner tablet, created in a collaborative effort between Samsung and Kaplan, answers the need for an out-of-the-box solution for early learning classrooms. Designed for ages 2–7, the Little Learner is a Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ that comes pre-loaded with educational apps for preschool-age children that cover a wide range of foundational skills such as literacy, logic, mathematics and language development. Kaplan curates the ad-free app collection, drawing from PBS Kids, Khan Kids and Samsung Kids.

Using Samsung Knox Configure, IT administrators can secure the online environment for students, locking down certain functions and ensuring that all tablets in the school have the same presentation. The Little Learner allows young students to interact with technology in a way that’s age-appropriate and engaging — without risking that they can browse the internet unsupervised.

“Teachers were not able to hand off tablets to kids, and now they can,” said Michelle Marshall, educational technology specialist at Kaplan. “We’ve tried to create a tablet that’s ready out-of-the-box, so they could give it to children with full trust that it’s secure.”

Beyond the classroom

Student success in early education depends on more than just the classroom experience. Transportation and safety are other important components of their experience — and there, too, technological innovations can help to enhance success. Samsung technology is fueling new solutions to keep students safe and make it easier for districts to orchestrate secure transportation.

For example, SMART tag combines a rugged onboard tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5, with RFID tags carried by each rider. The system monitors the location of each student as they scan on or off the bus, keeping all data encrypted and secure throughout the process. With Samsung Knox Suite, district administrators can manage onboarding tablets easily and deploy new tablets quickly. Parents can access the system and verify their student’s whereabouts — and receive alerts if a bus is delayed or breaks down.

Why Samsung?

Samsung prioritizes ease of use, providing comprehensive device management that’s simple to execute and maintain. That focus on easy-to-use device management — combined with intuitive user interfaces and device durability — makes Samsung products an excellent fit for early learning education. With best-in-class equipment such as displays, pre-k tablets, and Chromebooks and an extensive partner ecosystem, districts and early learning centers gain a spectrum of integrated tools to power the connected classroom.

Undoubtedly, technology in classrooms is here to stay. With Samsung educational technology in pre-k classrooms, you can provide young learners with secure, interactive early learning tools that fuel their natural creativity.
