With three expansive retirement communities and a team of roving healthcare professionals, Ohio Masonic Home provides assisted living and home health services to more than 1,500 retired Ohio residents. To help seniors age respectfully and safely — wherever they feel most comfortable — Ohio Masonic invests in remote monitoring solutions and other aging in place technology that improves residents’ medical care and quality of life.
As part of a five-month pilot, 60 residents at Ohio Masonic’s Springfield campus are testing a new solution from Reemo that combines the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch and Samsung’s SmartThings connected home technology. This solution enables seniors to operate lights, locks, thermostats and appliances using simple hand gestures. Meanwhile, the Ohio Masonic staff can remotely monitor real-time biometric and behavioral data and spot troubling trends.
The solution is helping Ohio Masonic reduce falls, proactively intervene when residents’ health declines, and boost customer satisfaction. Pilot participants enjoy using the solution and appreciate the opportunity to provide feedback on cutting-edge technology. Ohio Masonic is already considering layering this solution into two new development properties.
“I’ve been in the field of aging for over 35 years, and I’ve never been more excited,” says Tom Stofac, CEO of Ohio Masonic. “With this type of compassionate technology that bends to the user, we can transform how people age and improve quality of life for seniors.”
