Media storage solutions can speed up workflows, as photographer and cinematographer Omar “Omeez” Lockhart-Jones recently found out. When Jones found himself with several photo jobs and a movie that all needed post-processing at once, he made an urgent call to Sean Bryson of BullDogg CPU for help in speeding up his process. As a systems integrator with video and photo experience, Bryson’s advice to Jones was to upgrade his laptop with a new SSD rather than buy a whole new system.

New Media Storage Solutions Boost Speed and Efficiency

With the Samsung 850 EVO SSD now added to his existing 2012 MacBook Pro, Jones was able to finish several jobs — including a mini-movie — in six hours, rather than the 20 hours he would have needed previously. Using the SSD for graphic design greatly improved his process, as exporting finished files went from 34 seconds for a 5.9MB image down to four seconds, and the load times for the hundreds of images he works with each day have dropped by 80 percent.

With the new SSD, Jones is also able to open apps faster, which saves him valuable time, especially when he’s on the road. The time it takes for Jones to open a job in Final Cut or launch Lightroom are both down to around five seconds each, instead of the 20 seconds it used to take. Rendering is also a lot quicker now. “It cut the time of editing and rendering by about half,” says Jones. “It’s been a great workflow.”

The Samsung SSD, which has boosted workflow efficiently in the retail space as well, also shaved around a minute off of the boot time for Jones’ laptop, and the battery lasted longer while the system ran cooler — “a great testament to the power and efficiency of the Samsung drive,” notes Bryson.

Lifting the Limits on Creativity

A San Francisco Bay Area native, Jones is a well-known lifestyle photographer and cinematographer working for Creative Key Visual Co. At just 23 years old, he’s taken over 250,000 photographs which have been featured on Hypebeast, Highsnobiety, ThoseRebels and numerous blogs. He’s captured images for Nike, New Balance, Bows and Arrows, Rare Panther, ISO and more.

A quick shooter with an eye of his own, Jones transfers his photographic style into his videography by capturing each frame as he would a photograph. He’s been on tour with musical artists such as Matchbox Twenty, the Goo Goo Dolls, country singer Katie Earl and recording artist Ryan Leslie. In 2012, Jones was the cinematographer for Leslie’s mini-documentary for his Black Mozart album, which has been viewed by Kanye West, Jay-Z, Fabolous, ASAP Rocky, ASAP Ferg and many others. Since then Jones has gone on to shoot for numerous artists such as Fabolous, SchoolBoy Q, Ab-Soul, Red Cafe, Trinidad James and Waka Flocka.
