In today’s accelerated economy, businesses need apps to transform and mobilize their operations. At the same time, app developers need business insights and resources to bring their ideas to the market. This enterprise “app gap” represents a massive opportunity for both groups.

At Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2019, I spoke to Imeve CEO and cofounder David Copley — winner of the Samsung and Verizon 5G Developer Series — about how his company is beginning to leverage this opportunity.

“We’ve worked with Verizon quite a bit in the past, and we’re very excited about the potential of 5G for our application,” Copley says. It was through Verizon that Copley first heard about the contest.

Imeve entered the competition with its AVATOUR platform. AVATOUR is a virtual reality (VR) teleconferencing system that uses the Galaxy S10 5G and a 360-degree camera to replace travel for remote workers.

“We were very happy to have the opportunity to work with Samsung,” Copley says. “There are a lot of resources within Samsung to help developers.”

He emphasizes that events like the 5G Developer Series, SDC and hackathons are great for finding the right people to get projects off the ground.

“There are two ways that [developer conferences] help us. One is to find out about features and capabilities that we weren’t aware of. The other is to meet people. I think in any organization, it always helps to know people who know how to open doors for you.”

In terms of specific Samsung features useful for B2B deployments, Copley says the Knox suite of tools helps Imeve manage devices that it sends to customers from a central location — both conveniently and efficiently.

Asked what he was most excited about coming out of the SDC opening keynote, Copley was quick to reference the enterprise app gap.

“That’s really an interesting concept for us. We see it [often] in what we’re doing, and we think it is an opportunity for all developers.”
