Real-time information is pouring into businesses, generated by sensors, systems, customers and employees—and this inrush of data is increasing daily. New technologies, especially AI, generate and use more data than ever, and users across the enterprise need fast, always-on access to compete in the global marketplace.
To stay agile and responsive to fast-changing conditions, enterprises need storage designed for workloads that run 24 hours a day and push capacities to the edge. The Samsung PM9A3 and PM893 data center solid-state drives (SSDs) were built precisely to power those critical processes in five essential ways: speed, capacity, flexibility, reliability and data protection.
Unparalleled speed
When split-second decisions and real-time data represent the path to profitability, speed is important. The Samsung PM9A3 SSD is faster than competitive drives in terms of sustained read-write performance. Part of this speed comes from Samsung’s innovative engineering and proprietary technology, but it also comes from the PCIe® 4.0 interface, which achieves twice the bandwidth of the previous generation.
The PM9A3 delivers jaw-dropping sequential read/write speeds of up to 6,900/4,100 MB/s3 (2.5” U.2). Random read/write speeds are just as groundbreaking: 1,100,000 IOPS (read) and a whopping 200,000 IOPS (write). This is 3.6x greater than our previous data center standard, the PM983. The PM9A3’s exclusive hardware automation, called DASH (Dynamic Automation of SSD Hardware technology), enables vastly more efficient onboard operations for instant data processing. The PM9A3 also uses next-generation V-NAND chips for faster, more efficient and reliable flash memory.
SATA interface users can also share in these high-speed, high-reliability benefits. The PM893 SSD delivers sequential read/write speeds of up to 550/520 MB/s—up to four times faster than traditional HDDs—along with random read/write speeds of up to 98,000/30,000 IOPS. Supported by Samsung’s advanced V-NAND technology, these metrics translate to an unparalleled ability to handle massive amounts of data at high speeds.
Room for growth
Data that streams in constantly or is accessed thousands of times daily needs to be stored in a hot-tier, fast environment — but also one that has the capacity to hold all the data in question.
AI-powered systems make this even more pressing in two critical ways. First, AI excels in processing and analyzing massive amounts of data, so more relevant information available to AI systems translates to more detailed and relevant answers. The other side of the coin, however, is that AI tools can also create huge volumes of information since the output can be more detailed than ever.
SSD capacities have increased dramatically over just a few short years, making them highly competitive with HDDs in this critical area. Today, both the PM9A3 and PM893 are available in capacities of 960GB, 1.92TB, 3.84TB, and 7.68TB, enabling organizations to store huge volumes of data without sacrificing the speed of your tier 1 storage layer.

Flexibility for current and new platforms
Whether you’re upgrading your existing storage infrastructure or planning a new investment in storage, Samsung’s data center SSDs can adapt to meet your needs.
The PM9A3 is available in E1.S, U.2, and M.2 form factors, providing flexibility to fit into both new and existing storage configurations. These choices accommodate hyperscalers looking to achieve maximum density while preserving existing infrastructure investments.
The PM893 is designed to deliver high performance for mixed workloads while getting the most from your existing infrastructure investments. Using the SATA interface and a 2.5” form factor, the PM893 easily fits into your existing server configurations, extending their lifecycle. This data center-ready SSD is available in capacities large enough for enterprise-class scalability, and its easy installation allows businesses of all sizes to benefit.
Exceptional reliability and availability
The PM9A3 and PM893 are ideal for supporting real-time analytics of large data sets, which often are accompanied by intensive, non-stop data streaming. These applications require consistent write performance with reliability and dependability to match.
The reliability of SSDs can be measured through device/drive writes per day, or DWPD, which essentially measures how many times users can completely overwrite the entire storage space of a drive before it becomes unreliable. Samsung SSDs deliver 1.0 DPWD with a 5-year warranty (whichever comes first). That’s world-class dependability for constant data-intensive workloads.
Enhanced data protection and smoother operation
Speed, capacity, flexibility and reliability are all important factors when choosing an enterprise SSD. However, there’s one more key element: knowing your data is always managed securely, with minimal risk of corruption.
The PM9A3 and PM893 both support automatic data encryption to protect data from prying eyes. Samsung innovations include end-to-end data protection that ensures the consistency of data all along the transfer path, along with intelligent protection against data corruption because of a power interruption.
In addition, the Samsung SSD Toolkit can help with the efficient management of all SSDs in your data center. Combined with ultra-low power requirements, this ease of management can greatly reduce the total cost of ownership.
Built to accelerate enterprise data
Enterprises need fast-performing storage that has room to grow and offers flexibility for current and future needs. Data centers need drives capable of sustaining constant reads and writes, and organizations need the proper tools to manage the individual components of their storage infrastructure.
Samsung designs data center drives to meet all the requirements of high-performance enterprises. Just as importantly, Samsung manufactures SSD components down to the V-NAND memory chips, ensuring comprehensive quality control and efficiency. The Samsung PM9A3 and PM893 are designed, built and proven to solve the most prominent data storage problems enterprises face today — and keep you ready to support even greater demands in the future.
