Breezy Excursion is one of the hottest streetwear clothing brands in the country, headquartered in San Jose, California. When the computer used to run the Lightspeed point-of-sale (POS) system in their San Jose showroom needed to be replaced, Breezy’s Lisa-Marie Delgado needed a solution in time for the grand opening of their new showroom. She turned to integrator Sean Bryson of BullDogg CPU for a system that would be able to improve the time it took to process customer transactions, keep track of inventory and provide music for the showroom. Using a 120 GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD, Bryson built a system that went above and beyond, doubling the number of customers that the showroom could handle at once.
How SSDs Support the Breezy Workflow
Although originally intended to just run the POS system, the Samsung SSD made Bryson’s system fast enough that it has become the go-to computer in the shop for designers, who work in Illustrator and Photoshop. The speed and efficiency of the new system allows designers to work on layouts for web and print ads, as well as create new product designs, turning the “cash register computer” into the preferred workstation for most employees. Since many employees wear multiple hats and work on both sales and layouts, the ability to work on just one computer has greatly increased productivity; when traffic in the showroom is slow, employees can continue their work on designs. And since Breezy Excursion designs are distributed in multiple stores throughout the U.S., the need for new ads and products is always increasing.
The numbers demonstrate the improvement that Breezy Excursion experienced. While booting up with the old computer would have taken 65 to 76 seconds, the new computer reduced boot time to 28 seconds. Opening a 346 MB layout in Illustrator, which formerly took 28 seconds, now completes in 17 seconds, while opening a 1.04 GB layout now takes 34 seconds, down from 112.
As a sound engineer as well as an integrator, Bryson was aware of the advantages that Samsung’s client PC SSDs bring to the table. According to Bryson, “Samsung SSDs are the biggest performance upgrade one can achieve for the least amount of money. You don’t need the fastest CPU, just an SSD.” He built the new system with an Intel i3 Ivy Bridge CPU, 4 GB of RAM, and a shoebox-sized case with a 250-Watt power supply, which was sufficient due to the efficiency and power/cooling requirements of the Samsung SSD.
Success of Breezy
The increased productivity and superior design capabilities of the new technology have helped Breezy Excursion continue to gain traction in the entertainment world, with rappers and hip-hop performers such as Yo Gotti, E-40, Diddy, DJ Khaled, Waka Flacka, DJ Amen and other celebrities wearing the line. Their clothing has also been featured on “Love & Hip Hop,” a reality show on VH1.
