Federal agencies need to focus on creating a seamless, user-friendly experience in order to reap the benefits of new technologies while empowering mobile workers to more effectively carry out their mission, says Todd Maxwell, senior manager of business development and innovation at Samsung. Greg Otto, managing editor at Cyberscoop, recently interviewed Maxwell as part of FedScoop TV’s Accelerating Innovation in Government video series.
One of the top expectations of today’s mobile federal workforce, according to Maxwell, is a seamless transition between environments and workspaces — a consistent user experience and reliable functionality that won’t impede productivity or distract from the task at hand, whether accessing data from the car, home, office or remotely. Through technologies like Samsung DeX and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions, cloud services and next generation wireless systems like 5G, Maxwell believes agencies are equipped to meet those expectations.
While increased productivity is certainly a perk of this “seamless” approach, federal agencies must maintain their focus on securing mobility and emerging tech. To address this, Maxwell recommends making security as user-friendly as possible by ensuring it is baked into devices at the hardware level. Samsung Knox strikes an ideal balance easing usability for federal personnel, while simplifying device management so IT can rest easy at night knowing devices and data are secure.
