Think about your favorite piece of enterprise technology — maybe it’s your smartphone or tablet. Why do you love it so much? Although design and capabilities surely have something to do with it, if you ask me, there’s one thing that makes technology go from good to great: It solves problems.

And that’s exactly what we are doing with Facebook at F8, where we are delivering a customized virtual reality experience kit to some 2,600 developers.

At Samsung, we don’t believe that technology is valuable in isolation. We think it’s valuable when makes your life (or your work) easier, smarter, faster and better. That’s what’s driven us to make the best devices and products — not to mention content and services — on the market today. This belief is also what’s driving us as we explore the next great medium — virtual reality. VR has the unparalleled potential to revolutionize the way that we think about business, communication and entertainment. We’ve worked with corporate partners like Marriott, Redfin and Six Flags to push the boundaries of the virtual reality experience and solve major problems for their businesses, while enabling them to blaze exciting new trails in the process.

Our latest partner in this exciting new venture is Facebook. As Facebook prepared to host its F8 conference, they had a problem and needed our help. They wanted their developers to have the best possible tools to open up the world of virtual reality. We solved the problem by stepping in and providing every developer — all 2,600 of them — a Gear VR headset and custom-configured Galaxy smartphone.

However, this led to another problem that only Samsung could solve. How do you configure 2,600 devices?

For Samsung, the answer was easy: Samsung Business Services and the KNOX Customization platform. Samsung Business Services leveraged the KNOX Customization platform to offer granular control over hundreds of device settings and achieve the unique look and feel the client desired.

The customized Gear VR kits for Facebook allow for:

  • Developers to have all the tools they need at their fingertips with no additional setup.
  • The devices to instantly connect to the network with pre-loaded Wi-Fi credentials.
  • Facebook’s logo to automatically appear once the device is turned on and all Facebook apps to be pre-installed and pre-arranged.

Additionally, we were able to do all of this from one easy-to-use, cloud-based configurator tool, rather than manually changing settings on every device. Whether it’s 10 devices or 10,000, Samsung Business Services and the KNOX Customization platform can handle it.

Beyond device deployment, Samsung Business Services offers our clients a full range of tailored services, from ongoing technical and application support, to mobile management and security services. We have worked with some of the largest companies, like Facebook, as well as medium-sized and smaller firms to identify the right custom solutions for their technology needs. From upgrading the hospitality experience with a digital concierge, to enhancing the in-transit experience for taxi passengers, we have the experience to successfully implement our solutions from start to finish.
